An either/or question is a light way to learn what someone values: it asks very little of the person answering. That is the case Choice Vectors: Streamlining Personal AI Alignment Through Binary Selection makes for building personal alignment. Knowing your values is half the work; holding an assistant to them is the other half, and the Personalized Constitutionally-Aligned Agentic Superego paper describes an overseer that checks an agent’s plans against a constitution its user chose, before anything is done. The word “alignment” quietly hides a question: aligned to whom? You have just answered it, for one person, in about two minutes.
Every constitution is shorter than the person it speaks for. The good ones say when to ask.
